Living in Family Student Housing is the perfect opportunity for
students to enjoy all the benefits of an organized, family community.
The University of California offers two Family Student Housing sites
named University
Village (including East Village and New West
Village) and Smyth-Fernwald.
Over the years, these sites have become active, supportive communities
for registered UC Berkeley students juggling family and educational
responsibilities.

The University offers apartments for married,
single-parent, and domestic partner student families in two locations:
University Village in Albany, and Smyth
Fernwald in Berkeley. Eligibility for each unit type is based
on the size of your family. You should apply early, even before
notification of Berkeley admission, as there is a chronological
waiting list. The waiting period can range from two to twelve months
depending on the type of apartment requested and the time of year.
Rental rates for Family Student Housing are
very reasonable and include all utilities except telephone service.
Rents are subject to an annual increase to cover operating and future
construction costs. Each family will be assigned one parking space
at the time of move in. For further information, choose any of the
topics in the column on the right. You may start with our Frequently
Asked Questions section to find general information.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the construction planned in University
Village Albany through 2008 (view map), all applicants to Family Student
Housing are informed that the duration of their occupancy
might not be contiguous with their student status. You
may be required to sign an amendment to the rental agreement
ending your tenancy at a predetermined future date.
