Residential and Student Service Programs is proud to announce that Vivian Lee, resident of Putnam Hall, won the 2006 Vukasin Award. The Vukasin Award Program was founded in 1999 to recognize students who demonstrated significant leadership within the campus residential community.
In her first year at Cal, as a new resident in the Unit 1 community, Vivian Lee found her calling. She was selected to be the health worker for Putnam Hall and quickly found that she was well suited to fill this important role. She educated residents about various health issues ranging from the common cold to safe sex and stress management. She took her responsibilities beyond just giving out bandages, ice packs and condoms. Vivian provided residents with the tools to take care of all aspects of their health. She has also has gone the extra mile by taking an ill resident to Alta Bates Hospital in the middle of the night, making sure an intoxicated resident made it safely to bed, and helping a resident find counseling for depression.
Vivian was also aware of her peers concerns about nutrition. She worked on promoting healthier eating options and helped organize a unit wide workshop on Holistic Health. This workshop included 5 stations: healthy eating, yoga, tea sampling for health, all natural skin care, and making your own rice socks.
Vivian has been a true leader in her residential community. She demonstrated concern and care for her fellow residents and we thank you Vivian for your dedication and hard work. Congratulations on winning the Vukasin Award.
