Summer applications open February 1
The UC Berkeley Housing Portal opens for summer housing contracts on February 1. Apply as soon as possible once you have registered for your Summer Sessions courses. Housing is available on a first come, first served basis, so it’s best to secure your spot early!
How to apply for summer housing
Before you can get started on your summer housing application, you must enroll in Summer Sessions and create your Berkeley campus identification, CalNet ID. This process is handled through CalCentral. Complete the steps below to submit your summer housing application.
- Register for your Summer Sessions classes. Once your registration is approved, you will receive an email with instructions to set up your CalNet account.
- Log in to the Housing Portal on or after February 1.
- Select “Summer [Year]” for the upcoming summer housing term.
- Complete the online application, clicking “Save & Continue” at the bottom of each page. For help, visit How to Apply for Undergraduate Housing.
- Submit your application and wait for your offer!
You will receive an email about your housing application once a housing offer is available for you.
Housing contracts and payments
When you receive an offer:
- Review the Terms and Conditions and accept your offer.
- Pay the $300 advance payment in order to hold your space.
- If you miss your deadline to accept your contract offer, there is no guarantee that the space will remain available. If you miss your advance payment deadline or fail to pay your housing bill in full by the deadline, your housing contract will be cancelled.
Payment information: Full payment is required for all visiting summer session students prior to move in. Students will not receive their room key until full payment has been received.
Note: Current UC Berkeley students taking Summer Sessions are charged by a different process and on a different schedule. Please visit the Current Student page for further details.
Cancellation policy: Housing contract cancellations are not automatically granted and depend on specific conditions. In most cases, a cancellation request can only be approved if an eligible replacement is found to take over the contract. To request cancellation, please follow these steps:
- Submit a cancellation request on the housing portal.
- Provide supporting documentation to summerhousing@berkeley.edu.
- Return keys to the front desk of the unit upon move-out.
Housing assignments
Requesting medical, disability-related (ADA), or identity-based accommodations: In addition to submitting the housing application, students who wish to request an accommodation should visit Apply for Housing Accommodations. This page includes details on how UC Berkeley Housing offers reasonable accommodations or inclusive spaces to students based upon their disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religious or spiritual identity, and other identity statuses.
Requesting a roommate: Submit roommate preferences in the “Manage Roommate” step of the housing application. Requests must be mutual, same-gender, and for the same session and room type. If your housing accommodations are arranged for you by the university, registration center, or agent, you must communicate your roommate preferences to your liaison as early as possible, in order for the request to be considered by the Summer Sessions Housing Office.
Move-out date: Students are required to move out on the specified move-out date listed on their contract. No late stays or extensions will be approved. Students will need to find alternative housing outside of the contract dates if their flight is after the move out date.
