Moving out of on-campus housing
Below are the move-out dates for the fall and spring semesters:
- Undergraduate fall move-out date: Saturday, December 20, 2025, by 10 a.m.
- Undergraduate spring move-out date: Sunday, May 17, 2026, by 10 a.m.
Failure to return keys to your unit front desk and failure to be out on time will result in fines and conduct violations.
Be sure to review undergraduate move-out responsibilities. If you have any questions, please contact your unit’s front desk or Resident Assistant (RA).
Note: Housing agreements are for the entire academic year, see terms and conditions. If you are a student graduating, studying abroad, withdrawing, or with an approved cancellation/appeal needing to end your housing agreement before the end of the spring term, you must submit a cancellation request through the Housing Portal. Visit Cancellation and Appeals for more details.
Spring move-out and commencement day
We strongly recommend that you avoid moving out on the morning of Saturday, May 16, 2026 when the campus commencement ceremony will take place. Heavy traffic is expected and parking will be limited. Parking permits will not be valid on this day at any central campus lot.
Parking will be limited between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. on commencement day. Additionally, annual, monthly, and daily parking permits will not be valid between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you will be using a car to move-out on commencement day we suggest that you schedule your move for after 2 pm. Learn more about parking during commencement from UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation.
After-hours check out
If you are moving out during non-business hours, please obtain a checkout envelope from your unit’s front desk.
- Fill out the requested information.
- Place your key(s) in the envelope, seal it, and put it in your unit’s Key Drop Box; or, for residents of Panoramic Berkeley Apartments, place your key(s) in an envelope with your name, student ID (SID) and room number, and slide it under the door of your building’s leasing office.
- Lock change and/or lost key charges may apply if all keys are not returned.
Graduating students
Graduating seniors may be allowed to stay in housing depending on their desired move-out date. You may need to relocate to a specified, centralized location depending on your spring housing assignment.
If you need extended housing due to commencement, you must contact your unit front desk by May 1, 2026, and provide proof of your graduation ceremony date/time. Approval of extended housing must be obtained well in advance of move-out. Failure to obtain approval may result in unauthorized late move-out fees.
Summer Sessions A/A&D housing
Those currently living in housing and attending Summer Session A or A&D may be able to stay in housing post May 17 for a fee. To be eligible for this late stay option you must be able to move into your summer space as soon as it’s ready.
If you need extended housing for the spring to summer transition, you must contact your unit front desk by May 1, 2026, and provide proof of Summer Session attendance. Approval of extended housing must be obtained well in advance of moving out. Failure to obtain approval may result in unauthorized late move-out fees.
Cleaning and damage fees
Unit staff will inspect all rooms after you vacate. Any damage, trash removal, and/or cleaning charges will be assessed back to the room residents. Please speak with your RA about any damage that you caused and need to be billed for. Otherwise, charges will be split between roommates. Be sure to review undergraduate move-out responsibilities. If you have any questions, please contact your housing front desk or Resident Assistant (RA).
Recycle and donate
As the end of the school year approaches, let’s work together to prevent thousands of pounds of waste from entering our landfills during the move-out process. For students moving out and looking to dispose of their large furniture items: avoid fines up to $1000 and keep our streets clean by donating your reusable goods to Cooperative Reuse. For more information on how to donate and recycle your items through move-out, please visit Cal Moveout.
Meal plan end dates
Visit dining.berkeley.edu for information about meal plan end-dates. Your meal plan will be deactivated when you check out of your room. You can contact Berkeley Dining by emailing dining@berkeley.edu.
