Housing Updates for 2020-21 and COVID-19 Response

Spring Move-Out

All students must vacate the residential facilities no later than Sunday May 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Failure to be out by this time may result in fines and conduct violations.

Be sure to review your Move-Out Responsibilities.

The end of the year will arrive faster than you realize. It’s never too early to make travel arrangements if you haven’t already done so, gather boxes, plan for shipping or storing items, and talk with family or friends about moving assistance.

If you have any questions, please contact your housing Unit front desk or RA.

Moving Out Early

If you are moving out during non-business hours, please obtain a Check–Out envelope from the Unit Office.

  • Fill out the requested information

  • Place your key(s) in the envelope, seal it, and put it in your unit's Key Drop Box (or, for residents of Enclave and Panoramic Berkeley, place your key(s) in an envelope with your name, SID and room number, and slide it under the door of your building’s leasing office.)

  • Lock change and/or lost key charges may apply if all keys are not properly returned.

Graduating Students

Graduating seniors may be allowed to stay in housing depending on the date. You may need to relocate into a specified, centralized location. Late stay requests related to graduation should be brought to your unit-level front desk/ office with proof of graduation ceremony day/time.

Summer Sessions A/A&D Housing

Those currently living in housing and attending Summer Session A or A&D may be able to stay in housing between May 16 through May 23 for a fee. You must be able to move into your summer space as soon as it’s ready to be eligible for this option.

If you are in need of either of the above accommodations, you must contact your Unit front desk by May 1, 2021, and provide proof of commencement or Summer Session attendance. Approval of extended housing must be obtained well in advance of Move-Out, and failure to do so may result in an unauthorized Late Vacate charge.

Keys and Room Inspections

All keys must be returned to your Unit office no later than 10 a.m. on May 16, 2021.  Failure to return all keys issued to you will result in a charge for the locks to be changed ($75 to $100 per key or lock).

Unit staff will inspect all rooms after the last resident vacates. Any damage, trash removal, and/or cleaning charges will be assessed back to the room residents. Please speak with your RA about any damage that you caused and need to be billed for. Otherwise charges will be split between roommates.

Recycle & Donate

From April 28 to May 14, 2021, you can donate your gently used items and unopened, non perishable foods through our End of The Year Donation Drive! Our goal is to prevent thousands of pounds of waste from entering our landfills. Please bring your items to the bins in any of the following locations:

Unit 1: Christian, Slottman, Duetsch, Freeborn, Putnam
Unit 2: Main Lobby, Cunningham, Davidson, Ehrman, Griffiths
Maximino Martinez: Lobby
Unit 3: Spens Black, Ida Sproul, Norton, Priestly, Bev Cleary
Clark Kerr Campus: Building 1, Building 2, Building 12
All food will be donated to The Bear Pantry in University Village. If you have extra Cal Dining flex dollars, you can donate them at Bear Market, CK Cub, Golden Bear Cafe, and the Den to buy groceries for the UC Berkeley Food Pantry.
Please do not bring broken or damaged items, fragile items, or items larger than 18” by 18”. You can recycle broken electronic waste at the front desk of each unit. In addition, cardboard, bottles & cans, and paper should be recycled; leftover, expired food should be composted and all other items should be landfilled in your residential halls' appropriate waste bins. We hope you will take this opportunity to  donate items you may no longer need, diverting waste from the landfill and allowing someone else to make use of them!
If you live in a campus apartment, you may use the bin in the main lobby of Unit 2, or visit Cal Moveout to learn about other options.
For more information on how to donate and recycle your items for Move-out, please visit Cal Moveout.
