Relocation Process Prior to Move-In
How to Submit a Relocation Request Prior to Move-in
Students who have received and accepted a housing offer may request a relocation before moving into their housing assignment by filling in the Housing Relocation Request Form.
- Before you may be considered for a room relocation prior to move-in, you must accept the housing offer that you were given.
- Complete the request form, providing your reason for relocation as well as your initials to indicate you have read and understand the terms of requesting a relocation.
- This form will only be available before the fall move-in period, starting from mid-February.
Relocation Process After Move-In
How to Submit a Relocation Request for your current residence
Complete the Housing Relocation Request Form, providing your reason for relocation as well as your initials to indicate you have read and understand the terms of requesting a relocation. Please be sure that you access the form using your @berkeley.edu email. Please read through all instructions carefully.
The Housing Coordinator for Room Relocations will contact you within 7-10 days letting you know how your request has been categorized, and providing you with potential alternative resources. This does not mean your room relocation will occur within this timeframe. You will simply be provided with the status of your request.
Please note that if you are placed in a temp quad, you do not need to fill out the form. You will be part of the relocation process, with emails being sent out on Fridays.
To students who requested a room relocation through the google form that was available over the summer: If our office was unable to grant your room relocation, and you are still interested in a room relocation, you must submit a new relocation request form to confirm that you are still interested in changing rooms.
Undergraduate Relocation Process
After submitting the housing relocation request for an approved reason, students will be placed on the housing relocation waitlist. Housing relocations are not guaranteed and will be processed based upon the reason for the request, our housing availability, and the order in which we receive requests.
Room relocations will not be processed during the first two weeks of each semester, finals period, or winter break.
Students who are concerned with the financial commitment of their housing and students with an accommodation request related to a medical condition or disability will receive priority consideration for housing if they provide documentation supporting their request and engage in the housing accommodations interactive process.
In order to be considered for a room relocation based on financial need, you must select all room types and locations that are more affordable than your current space. Please see our Housing Rates. Students with financial requests are encouraged to look into the Cost of Attendance Adjustment process with the Financial Aid Office.
To be considered for a room change due to a roommate conflict, you will need to have conducted the roommate mediation process with the assistance of your Resident Assistant (RA) and your Resident Director (RD). Relocations based on roommate conflicts will only be considered if you have approval from your RD.
Graduate Room Relocation Requests
UC Berkeley students living in the Graduate Single Student Apartments and hoping to change their housing assignment to a different housing agreement or room type should submit the Graduate Housing Room Relocation Request Form to be placed on the waitlist for a housing room relocation.
Room relocations are processed in the order they are received, and you will receive an offer by email if a space is available for you. You will have the opportunity to accept or decline any room relocation offer.
We cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet all requests, and please keep in mind that if you have broader preferences listed in your room relocation request, then it will be more likely that we could offer you a room relocation. If you are requesting a room relocation based on financial concerns, we recommend selecting all spaces that are less expensive than your current assignment.
If you have any questions about your room relocation request, please email graduatestudenthousing@berkeley.edu.
