Edge Programs

Congratulations on your acceptance to UC Berkeley! Now is the time to apply for your summer housing. Freshman and Transfer Edge students will all reside together in a shared residential complex just one block from campus in our newest location, Blackwell Hall. Our residence halls provide many opportunities for you to create lifelong friendships, build leadership skills, work, play, and get academic support to keep you on the road to graduation and success. On top of all that, it’s safe, easy, and convenient to live on campus. Professional and student staff also live on-site and provide enriching programs and activities to facilitate a sense of community among all students.

Freshman and transfer students are guaranteed summer housing for Edge programs if they apply before the housing deadline. In order to be guaranteed housing, students must complete the online summer housing application.

When to Apply

  • Apply as soon as possible once you have enrolled in the Edge program and have registered for your Summer Sessions courses. Housing is available on a first-come, first served basis, so it’s best to secure your spot early!
  • The UC Berkeley Housing Portal opened for summer housing contracts on February 1, 2026. The deadline for Edge students to submit their housing application in order to guarantee their housing spot is the following:
    • Freshman Session C: Friday, May 22, 5PM
    • Freshman Session D: Friday, May 29, 5PM
    • Transfer Session C: Friday, June 5, 5PM
    • Transfer Session D: Friday, June 12, 5PM
  • Applications are evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to Apply

To apply for summer housing:

  • To get started on your summer housing application, new students must enroll and create their Berkeley campus identification (CalNet ID) before they can access the housing application portal. For undergraduates, this process is handled through Cal Central.
  • Once you have created your CalNet ID, register for your classes via the Summer Sessions website.
  • Apply for summer housing as soon as possible.
  • Select Summer 2026 as the housing term.
  • Please review Phase 1 Instructions and indicate what housing you need. This step is very important as this will notify the housing team to place you with your fellow program participants in the right location. Please be sure to indicate that you are applying for Freshman or Transfer Edge housing.
  • Complete the online application, clicking “Save & Continue” at the bottom of each page.
  • Once you finish Phase 1 of the application, your submission is complete, and you will receive an email about your housing application once a housing offer is available for you.

Housing Contracts and Payments

  • Receiving an offer:
    • Review the Terms & Conditions and accept your offer.
    • If you miss your deadline to accept your contract offer, there is no guarantee that the space will remain available.
  • Payment Information:
    • As a current UC Berkeley student, you will be charged for your summer contract no earlier than 10 days before your session starts. Billing charges align with financial aid disbursement. Please check your Cal Central account frequently so you do not miss any deadlines.
    • The rates for each session are below:
      • Session C Rate: $5,160
      • Session D Rate: $3,990
  • Cancellation Policy
    • Housing contract cancellations are not automatically granted and depend on specific conditions. In most cases, a cancellation request can only be approved if an eligible replacement is found to take over the contract. To request cancellation, please follow these steps:
      1. Submit a cancellation request on the housing portal
      2. Return the keys to front desk of the unit upon move-out
      3. Provide supporting documentation to summerhousing@berkeley.edu

Housing Assignments

  • Requesting Medical, Disability-related (ADA), or Identity-Based Accommodations: In addition to submitting the housing application, students who wish to request an accommodation should visit the Accommodations and Identity-based Needs page for links to relevant forms and information. This page includes details on how UC Berkeley Housing offers reasonable accommodations or inclusive spaces to students based upon their disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religious or spiritual identity, and other identity statuses.
  • Requesting a Roommate: Submit roommate preferences in the “Manage Roommate” step of the housing application. Requests must be mutual, same-gender, and for the same session and room type.
  • Move-Out Date: Students are required to move out on the specified move-out date listed on their contract. No late stays or extensions will be approved. Students will need to find alternative housing outside of the contract dates if their flight arrives after the move out date.
