What to do before you apply for housing
Choose your housing preferences. Make sure to Explore Housing Options and pick your top housing preferences before submitting your application. For each preference, you’ll first select a housing complex location, then select your preferred room type within that location —, for example, a triple room. We recommend that you keep preferences broad and always choose “any room size, any location” as your last housing preference in order to maximize your chances of getting an offer. Note: Family student housing is only available at University Village.
Check your email address listed in CalCentral. UC Berkeley Housing sends housing contract offers by email, so make sure your email address is up to date on your CalCentral profile.
New students: create your CalNet ID. You need to accept your offer of admission to UC Berkeley and create your CalNet ID before you can apply for campus housing. You will not be able to access the Housing Portal without your CalNet ID.
Prepare payment. The non-refundable fee to submit a housing application is $45.00.
Be sure to respond to your housing offer
Be sure to accept your housing offer by the deadline stated in your offer email. For undergraduate students and family student housing, the deadline is typically about five days after you receive your offer. For graduate students, the deadline is seven days after you receive your offer. Students who miss the deadline are not likely to receive a second offer.
The housing offer process varies slightly by student population. Read about the different housing assignment processes to learn more about accepting or declining your offer.

Be sure you read through our terms and conditions and cancellation policies before accepting your offer.
Housing offers cannot be changed
Housing offers can be accepted or declined, but not changed. If you want a different room assignment, you must accept your current housing offer and then submit a housing relocation request. Room relocations are not guaranteed.
If you received an offer for family housing, read the Family Housing Assignment Process and Offers, which describes your offer and room change processes.
Summer Housing
Summer housing options are available through an application that opens in February. Summer housing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s best to secure your spot early!
