Blackwell Residence Hall is a modern, eight-story residence hall with premium double rooms: two residents per room with no bunk beds. Upscale amenities include an expansive on-site fitness center, a hotel-like lobby, spacious study lounges, and a prime location one block from campus and the Recreational Sports Facility.

Close to shops, restaurants, the Recreational Sports Facility, and Sproul Plaza.

Room types

Premium corridor-style residence hall: Blackwell is a premium residence hall featuring larger-than-standard rooms and no bunk beds. Rooms are along a central hallway that share communal bathrooms and lounges.
Most floors are all gender with multiple all-gender bathrooms per floor.

Room occupancy

Double-occupancy rooms and a limited number of single-occupancy rooms are available.
General note: There are very few single rooms at UC Berkeley, and they are typically reserved for students with a documented disability need.

Café 3 dining commons is only a block away at 2400 Durant Avenue.
Bear Market convenience store is next to Café 3.

About the building

Named after David Blackwell, the first Black professor ever to receive tenure at UC Berkeley and a preeminent statistician who made the campus his home for almost 50 years.

- Entry and opposing wall: The bedroom door swings inward into the room and faces a window centered on the opposing wall.
- Left wall: The wall to the left of the door has two extra-long twin beds on either end of the wall. In between the beds is the Microchill refrigerator / microwave combo.
- Right wall: The wall to the right of the door has two closets, two desks, and two office chairs, alternating, closet, desk, closet, desk.
- Entry and opposing wall: The bedroom door swings inward and faces a window centered on the opposing wall.
- Left wall: The wall to the left has a desk and a chair at the far end adjacent to the window. The wall space to the left is unused.
- Right wall: The wall to the right of the door has a closet, micro-fridge, and extra-long twin bed.
