Stern Residence Hall

Stern Hall welcomes womxn-identified students. Located next to Foothill on the northeast side of campus, Stern is quiet with easy access to nature and hiking trails.
A triple room is shown in Stern Hall. Rooms are single, double, and triple-occupancy.
Bedroom furnishings include extra-long twin beds, desks, chairs, dresser, mirror, and closet.
Bedrooms have carpeting, a microwave, and a mini-refrigerator, with many utilities included.
Residence halls have shared bathrooms; each suite has its own shared bathroom.
Stern Hall buildings provide high speed Wi-Fi. Stern is especially convenient to STEM buildings nearby.
Stern Hall residents share the campus eSports Center and Foothill Dining Commons with residents of Foothill Residence Hall.
There is secured entry and access to the building, as well an on-site laundry center, fitness center, mail services, bike storage, and recreation room.

Stern residence hall welcomes womxn-identified students in spacious, traditional corridor-style and suite-style rooms. Located in low-rise buildings next to the Berkeley Hills adjacent to the Foothill complex and sharing the same dining commons. Offers quieter surroundings with easy access to STEM buildings, hiking trails, and views of the Bay. Ideal for students looking for a quieter, less urban environment.

In the Berkeley hills, next to the Foothill residence hall complex on the northeast side of campus at 2700 Hearst Avenue.
Convenient to STEM buildings, including the College of Engineering.
Close to hiking trails and views of the Bay.

Room types

Traditional corridor-style residence hall: Rooms along a central hallway that share a communal bathroom and lounges.
Suites: Collection of two to three rooms that include a shared bathroom, a common area, and a separate locked entrance.

Room occupancy

Double, triple, and a limited number of single-occupancy rooms are available.
Double rooms are the most commonly available option.
General note: There are very few single rooms at UC Berkeley, and they are typically reserved for students with a documented disability need.

Theme Program: Stern’s second floor houses the Empowering Womxn in STEAM (WISE) program, which welcomes interested students who experience life through the lens of womxn in body, spirit, and identity — past, present, future, and fluid. As a result, the second floor is designed to be inclusive of transgender, gender-fluid, and nonbinary students.
