UC Berkeley Housing is pleased to announce that its Housing Guarantee has been expanded for 2026–27. With the addition of 2400 new beds in campus housing since 2018 and two more major undergraduate complexes expected to open by 2028, UC Berkeley is committed to enabling more students to benefit from the community, support, and academic benefits of campus housing.
Undergraduate Housing Guarantee for 2026-27
New incoming first-year students in 2026–27 are eligible for a two-year housing guarantee, provided they meet all deadlines and conditions outlined below.
New incoming transfer students in 2026–27 are eligible for a one-year housing guarantee, provided they meet all deadlines and conditions outlined below.
Housing Guarantee conditions
In order to be eligible for the undergraduate Housing Guarantee, students must adhere to the conditions described in this section. For first year students with a two-year guarantee, you must meet all requirements both years that you apply for housing.
Have flexible preferences. Choose “any room size, any location” as one of your five housing preferences in the housing application. The housing guarantee does not ensure any specific room type, location, or amenity.
Meet all deadlines. Meet all UC Berkeley and UC Berkeley Housing deadlines, including, but not limited to: application, contract, payment, and enrollment.
Accept your housing offer on time. Accept your housing offer by the deadline stated in the offer. The guarantee includes only one housing offer. If the initial housing offer is not accepted by the deadline, the guarantee no longer applies, and the space will be reassigned.
Follow all policies. Adhere to all Terms and Conditions of the housing contract and residential policies.
Apply for single undergraduate housing. The guarantee does not apply to family student housing or graduate housing. Incoming undergraduate students living with dependents or domestic partners will receive housing priority in family student housing, at University Village.
If you are eligible for a two-year guarantee, apply for both your first and second years. To maintain eligibility for the second year of the two-year housing guarantee, first-year students need to apply for housing in the spring semester of their first year for the following year’s housing. The application window for continuing students is February 1–15; applications must be received during this period to maintain eligibility.
Housing for continuing students
Continuing students have opportunities for more independent living — such as doubles, suites, or apartments. With more than 2,400 beds added since 2018 and 2,700+ expected by 2028, UC Berkeley is expanding housing options that support students throughout their college journey.
While UC Berkeley does not guarantee on-campus housing to continuing students entering before Fall 2026, priority is given to students who apply by the housing deadline and list “any room size, any location” as one of their housing preferences.
Students admitted from the UC Berkeley waitlist
New students admitted off the UC Berkeley waitlist will still receive a housing guarantee if they meet all the eligibility conditions. To qualify, you will need to complete the housing application by your admissions acceptance deadline and include “any room size, any location” as one of your housing preferences.
