Academic Year 2020–21 Projected Rates for Residence Hall Contracts

Update: As of July 20, 2020, in response to developments in public health conditions and due to density restrictions relating to public health guidelines, all residence hall rooms (double, triple, and quad) have been converted to single rooms. Converted rooms will retain the size and furniture of the double, triple or quad room, but will house a single resident. New rates for the converted rooms are reflected in the charts below.  In general, students in single rooms will be charged the same as if they occupied a double room. However, some of the rooms may be larger as they were designed to accommodate multiple people. To create a more equitable experience for students, we have modified our rates to benefit students.

Students who are in the smallest standard rooms designed for just one person will actually be charged less than they would during a traditional school year; they will be charged $12,450, several thousand dollars less than what we would normally charge ($14,870) for housing, plus $5,300 for a required meal plan year. Students who are by themselves in standard rooms designed for two people (doubles) will be charged the same as if they had a roommate; they will be charged $12,865 for housing and $5,300 for a required meal plan year, the same they would if this was a traditional school year. Students who are by themselves in standard rooms designed for three people (triples) will be charged the same rate as students occupying a double room; they will also be charged $12,865 for housing and $5,300 for a required meal plan year. While this is more than what they would be charged if three people were occupying the space, they are also benefiting from more space and privacy.

Do you receive financial aid? If so, you’ll get a “Living in a Campus Residence Hall” budget in your financial aid package. Please review your financial aid package and plan accordingly. Learn more about your cost of attendance and financial aid.

Notes about residence hall rates and fees:

  • All residence hall contracts include a $5,300 Blue Meal Plan. You may upgrade your plan if desired. Learn more about meal plan options.
  • Spring-only contract rates are half of the full-year rates (5 installments instead of 10).

The following fee will appear as a separate line item on student Cal Central accounts:

  • For 2020-21, most residence hall contracts include an “Equipment Fee” of $80 for the use of a MicroChill refrigerator and microwave combination unit in each room; the combination appliances are needed because meals will be initially served on a to-go basis. (Blackwell Hall residents will not pay the added fee, as the cost of these appliances were already incorporated into their rates.)  This $80 fee is included in our Living in a Residence Hall Financial Aid budget.
